  • Ideas to Make Back-to-School a Breeze

Minneapolis, MN: The 2022 countdown to the end of the school year is always exciting; and then before you know it, summer break is here and just as quickly as it came, it is gone. With September just a few weeks away, we’ve put together a list of our best tips for getting your kids ready to get back into the swing of the school year.

    Start Adjusting Sleep Schedules

Typically over the summer months, many families become more lenient with bedtimes and morning routines. Starting to adjust back to a regular schedule a few weeks prior to the school year beginning can pay off in a big way. Start moving bedtime by 10 or 15 minutes earlier every night until your child is able to get to bed at the time they will be required to for the school year. The same goes for wake up times. Now is also a good time to introduce the responsibilities of an alarm clock! Starting the day well-rested is the best approach for all the change to come.

    Become Familiar with the School

Whether it is a brand new school or one you’ve been attending for multiple years, it may be beneficial to take a quick tour of the building. Help your child understand where the necessities are such as their classroom, where you (or the bus) will pick them up and drop them off, the gym, the library and the bathrooms. If it’s an option, meeting the teacher is a big plus as well!

    Play at the School Playground

Whether or not you were able to take a tour of the inside, the playground is likely always accessible. Make a fun day of it and invite a few friends, pack a picnic lunch and create some positive memories associated with school! This will help your child build excitement and confidence leading up to the school year.

    Stock up on School Supplies

Taking your child along with you on that back-to-school shopping trip will help them feel included and responsible. Allow them to have an opinion on things like a backpack, lunchbox, pencil case, notebooks and a fun first day of school outfit. This is sure to get things off to a great start!

    Designate a Space for Homework

Having a specific place for your child to complete their homework will make all the difference. Choose an area of your home that is quiet and well-lit. It also helps if you are able to be in earshot if they need assistance. Have a few basic supplies stocked in this area so they have all the tools they need to be successful!

We hope this list of ideas gives your back-to-school prep list a boost! We’re always happy to act as a resource, whether in preparing for the upcoming school year or answering questions about home ownership. Never hesitate to reach out, visit JoeMetzler.com or call (651) 552-3681.
